A feed supplement for horses containing highly bioavailable Curcumin.
ACTIVE TURMERIC
Curcumin is the active ingredient found in Turmeric which has powerful anti-inflammatory
and antioxidant properties to maximise mobility and support muscle recovery after
exercise. Turmeric contains approximately 1.6-3.3 % Curcumin which is poorly absorbed
from the body whereas the Curcumin concentration in the active ingredient of KUR-Q-MIN
is 5.5% and due to a proprietary Micelle technology is many times more bioavailable.
HOW CURCUMIN WORKS & BIOAVAILABILITY
The benefits of Curcumin are limited by its low solubility in water and corresponding poor
intestinal absorption. Animal studies have shown that natural Curcumin extract is rapidly
metabolised and excreted in the faeces, therefore having limited systemic bioavailability
and therapeutic effect. Curcumin must be delivered by a carrier system to improve absorption and delivery to the target tissues.
Curcumin is treated with a blend of surfactants to form micelles which improve aqueous
solubility, dispersability and absorption. The structure of the micelle contains an inner
hydrophobic cavity which transports Curcumin molecules to the intestinal wall and a
hydrophilic exterior which ensures compatability in aqueous systems so that Curcumin
can pass freely through the epithelial cell membrane of the small intestine.
POTENT ANTI-OXIDANT FOR
MUSCLE & EXERCISE RECOVERY
Sustained exercise, whether it be in training, competion or simply when hacking causes
an increase in muscle and joint soreness which unless counteracted can limit performance
and willingness to train.
Many studies in horses have shown that heavy or sustained exercise causes oxidative stress
leading to a build up of free radicals which will, if not neutralised, lead to muscle fatigue
and damage resulting in decreased physical performance. The body contains a range of
endogenous antioxidants to prevent the formation of these free radicals and to rapidly
eliminate them but its defence mechanisms rely on synergy between both endogenous
and dietary antioxidants.
Curcumin has remarkable antioxidant activity, its main mode of action being the scavenging
of free radicals and has been shown to more effective in this role than either Vitamin C or
Vitamin E. (Sharma OP).
With regular feeding of KUR-Q-MIN it is easier to keep horses in the work necessary for
success for longer without the dangers of the overtraining syndrome where the good work
has been left at home and the horse doesn’t perform as well as expected on the day.
POWERFUL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY ACTION
Curcumin has been shown to have an extremely powerful anti-inflammatory action which
helps the horse remain supple and helps it to maintain or improve gait and cadence. It is
also extremely effective in helping horses maintain or improve mobility so that competitive
careers can be extended and it also enables horses used primarily for leisure riding to be
kept happy and free of aches and pains well into old age.
- KUR-Q-MIN contains no prohibited substances and can be used in all forms of
competition whether under FEI rules or the rules of racing. - KUR-Q-MIN is palatable and can be fed to horses daily without any problems
associated with rejection of feed containing medications. - KUR-Q-MIN does not increase the risk of inflammation of the epithelium of the
gastro-intestinal tract and an increased risk of ulcers or imbalance in the hind gut
WHERE TO USE?
- Racing. Helps horses stay fit in heavy training and keen and ready to race. Contains
no prohibited substances. - Dressage. Help improve cadence and gait
